We are pleased to announce that Brenda Morton is the new Government Affairs and Communications Manager for DAAR effective Thursday, December 1st. Her primary responsibilities will include advocating on legislative matters that affect the association, administering the Dulles Area REALTORS® Political Action Committee (DARPAC) and managing the association’s communications program.
Brenda comes to us with extensive legislative, communications and legal, experience.
For several years, she has worked as a licensed attorney in Washington D.C., focusing on ethical duties of corporate counsel, the securitization of multi-family housing loans, and estate planning.
She also served as the Deputy Director of Legislative and Public Affairs with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) where she directed their legislative efforts and served as a key spokesperson. In addition to her extensive legislative experience, she developed key communication materials for Congress, media, advocacy groups as well as the first internet standards for RD headquarters and field offices.
Prior to her seventeen years at USDA, she spent six years at the Majority Policy Committee with the United States Senate. As its Executive Director, she oversaw operations of professional staff, edited policy reports for dissemination to U.S. Senators and coordinated the Senate Data General User’s Group.
Brenda earned her Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University (Cum laude) and her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C.
Brenda, who resides in Ashburn, VA, has extensive volunteer experience including serving as a Pro Bono attorney at the D.C. Probate Resource Center and the Legal Counsel for the Elderly; Member, Loudoun County Transit Advisory Board; Past Chair and past Vice Chair, Loudoun County Commuter Bus Advisory Board; Volunteer for the Loudoun County Public Library; and as an Election Officer in Ashburn.
