The broadband expansion project is expected to bring internet access to approximately 8,600 unserved residents and businesses in rural Loudoun County.
During the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors meeting on April 18, 2023, an update on the county’s broadband expansion project indicated that the project is on track, and some homes may have service as early as December 2023. The project is set to be completed by July 2024.
Through a series of grants, Loudoun County began a project in partnership with All Points Broadband to bring high-speed internet to approximately 8,600 unserved residents and businesses in rural parts of the county. The county aims to have 99 percent of Loudoun homes serviced by the project’s end.
The issue was magnified with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic as citizens were forced into their homes to do at-home work and schooling.
The expansion project could boost property values in the Western part of Loudoun County, as a main deterrent for moving out west has been a lack of internet access. With more people working from home than ever, this project will make living in Western Loudoun a viable option for more families.
