The legislation aims to achieve a 50% reduction in current toll rates in the eastern end of the road and a $1-$2 reduction on the western end.
On Thursday, January 27, 2022, DAAR brought its advocacy efforts (virtually) to Richmond by speaking in favor of the Greenway Bill during the Virginia Senate Transportation Committee meeting.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Jennifer Boysko (SB 445) and Del. David Reid (HB 859), aims to drastically reduce the toll costs on the Dulles Greenway as well as establish a distance-based pricing system.
Gwen Pangle, Chair of DAAR’s Government Affairs Committee, and Eric Fryer, DAAR’s Director of Government Affairs, reiterated the Association’s stance on the toll rates in their testimonies and urged the committee to support the legislation. Below are some highlights from their statements:
The average roundtrip commuter could spend more than $4,000 a year in toll costs, and for our Association’s REALTOR® members who need to conduct business daily in areas all over Loudoun County, this amount can be much more onerous.” — Eric Fryer
We as REALTORS®, homeowners, and commuters alike depend on affordable/accessible roadways to travel throughout the county, and the Dulles Greenway has consistently cast an undue financial burden on Loudoun residents.” — Gwen Pangle
