Potential Opening Date Set for Metro to Loudoun

Proposed Metro Route

According to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), the six-stations, as part of the second phase of the 23-mile Silver to Loudoun County, are projected to open on or about July 16th, 2020. They’ll offer one-seat, no-transfer rides from Loudoun to the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

This is the first time MWAA has set an official internal projected opening date for rail service from Ashburn/Route 772, Loudoun Gateway/Route 606, Dulles Airport, Innovation Center, Herndon and Reston Town Center to the rest of the rail system.

The D.C. Metro is the second-busiest rail system in the United States, currently averaging more than 600,000 riders per day. The Metro includes six train lines and covers 118 miles in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The stations are being built by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, and will be operated by the Metropolitan Washington Area Transit Authority.
