DAAR Pens Letter of Opposition to Loudoun Supervisors on Short-Term Rental Regulations

The Dulles Area Association of REALTORS® (DAAR) sent a letter to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors on Friday expressing opposition for proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendments related to short-term residential rentals. The amendments in question are set to be discussed at the upcoming Transportation and Land Use Committee meeting on Feb. 22.

Emphasizing the protection of private property rights in Loudoun County, the letter makes clear that “DAAR does not support any zoning ordinances on short-term rentals – or any regulations infringing on the property owner’s fundamental right to rent.”

The association, which represents more than 1,300 REALTORS® in Loudoun County, also shared its stance that short-term rentals “should not be regulated under the county’s zoning code to begin with, as this violates the fundamental principle that zoning focuses on land use, and not the user of the land.”

DAAR’s letter continues to point out several areas of concern related to property rights within the proposed ZOAM, including overreaching occupancy and acreage requirements, unattainable enforcement regulations, and the lack of a grandfather clause.
